Curse of Strahd - Castle Ravenloft

Virtual Tabletop Journey presents the iconic Curse of Strahd - Castle Ravenloft, recreated for use in TaleSpire! This map was made possible by the Castle Ravenloft - TaleSpire Edition Kickstarter. Thanks so much for your support!

A year in the making, this labor of love by Ooiittee and Blackwolf_Majik spans the main floors and spires alongside the dungeons and catacombs. Import the upper castle and choose either Undercroft variant below.

Before exploring: the upper castle sits at heights 300 to about 900. Adjust your board settings after loading, and read the play guidance below.

Boards and Variants

  • Main Floors to Spires: the upper castle, from its main floors to the towering spires.
  • Undercroft - Hide Volumes Hidden: dungeons and catacombs with all hide volumes hidden; the source recommends this version for a party exploring the castle's buried mysteries.
  • Undercroft - Hide Volumes Revealed: the alternate dungeons and catacombs board with all hide volumes revealed.

These are board imports, not slabs to assemble. The two Undercroft boards are alternatives, not additional sections you need to combine.

Important Play Guidance

The builders pushed TaleSpire to its limits. The original release notes warn that practical play in the upper castle can be challenging:

  • Board height: the upper castle is located at a minimum height of 300, reaching approximately 900. Change your board settings to accommodate the full height when you first load it.
  • Height slider: hiding floors above the play area while leaving enough room to move tokens can require careful adjustment, even when the slider is locked.
  • Draw distance: the castle is so large that the release notes report it may not all render at once without unofficial plugins.
  • Performance: thousands of assets make this a demanding map, particularly on slower computers.
  • Upper-floor hide volumes: the curved architecture and complex layout prevented a satisfactory hide-volume setup. You will need to manage how you conceal unexplored upper-floor areas; do not expect the Undercroft's hide-volume experience throughout the upper castle.
  • Finding the Undercroft: the lower boards were published before the rooms were repositioned. After loading either variant, turn the camera to the right and raise the elevation to find the rooms.

These limitations are preserved from the original publication rather than a claim about changes in newer TaleSpire versions.

Board Features

  • Environment blocks for morning, noon, sunset and moonlight.
  • An extraordinary level of detail throughout the castle.
  • Hide volumes for exploration in the Undercroft.
